Rationale

Traditionally the designated catchment area for John Blandy Primary School covered the civil parish of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor and part of the civil parish of Fyfield and Tubney (Fyfield Wick).  However, there are addresses in the civil parish of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor that are postally in Longworth and these were specifically excluded from the designated/catchment area.  There are also addresses in the civil parish of Longworth that are postally in Kingston Bagpuize (although they are to the north of the A420) and these addresses were specifically included in the designated/catchment area.

There has been significant housing development on the western side of Southmoor village and the classification of addresses as being in Southmoor or Longworth has become blurred with some neighbouring addresses listed as being in two different villages postally.

The designated/catchment area for the school has not kept in line with housing developments to the west of Southmoor and there are now addresses that are postally in Southmoor that are not currently considered to be in the designated/catchment area of John Blandy School.  The current designated/catchment area boundary also bisects a small number of recently built properties.

Proposal

Having worked closely with Oxfordshire County Council the school and Trust are consulting to alter the designated/catchment area for John Blandy School.  The intention is that all addresses in the civil parish of Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor will be included, regardless of whether they are postally in these two villages or somewhere else.  A small part of the civil parish of Hinton Waldrist will also be included where there are addresses south of the A420 that are postally in Longworth.  Fyfield Wick and an area of the civil parish of Fyfield and Tubney to the west of Woodhouse Fruit Farm will also be included in the designated/catchment area of John Blandy School.  The northern boundary will be the A420.

Recommendation

The designated/catchment area for John Blandy School be changed as shown in the map, as found on the school consultation page, with effect from 1 September 2025.
