Developing Children’s Phonological Awareness

September 21, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This course aims to increase your knowledge about how to develop children’s phonological awareness. Suitable for all Early Years Practitioners.

This course focuses on the many aspects of early year’s provision that support children’s early language and how these provide the necessary foundations for early reading and writing. The course outlines key areas to focus on in your practice and you will be introduced to a range of interactive games and activities to develop children’s skills. It requires you to be reflective about your own practice.

By the end of the training participants will be able to:

  • understand the importance of communication and language in the process of developing phonological awareness
  • be familiar with the crucial foundations which are a perquisite to phonics teaching and how these link to the Statutory Framework and Development Matters.
  • have explored a range of activities to develop phonological awareness.
  • Recognise children’s phonological skills and plan for their next steps.
  • have begun to reflect on the strengths and areas for development in your own provision for phonological development.
