Principles of Assessment (SEND)

January 25 @ 4:00 pm - 5:45 pm

This session focuses on the principles of effective assessment, and how to respond to assessment outcomes.

What do your pupils with SEND need to learn? Where are the gaps that are holding them back? Do some pupils leave you feeling stumped?

This session focuses on the principles of effective assessment, and how to respond to assessment outcomes.

● What SEND-specific assessments are there?

● How do I establish an assessment baseline?

● How can I use assessment results to inform target setting and future learning?

Whether you are a Teaching Assistant, ECT, experienced teacher or SENDCo, this workshop will give you a new perspective for assessing your most complex learners.

Learning Outcomes:

● To look at tools and techniques for effective formative assessment.

● To develop a greater understanding of the Cognitive curriculum and how it relates to broader barriers to learning.

● To explore how the principles can be easily transferred to your classroom.

● To share and discuss classroom concerns with experts in the field.

This session is being run by Heidi Dennison from Frank Wise School in Banbury, a special school for children and young adults aged between 2 and 19 with a national reputation for excellence. It will be interactive, and will give participants practical guidance on using assessment to maximise the potential of all of the children with whom they work.
