New to KS1 Course 1 – The Curriculum

This professional development compiles of two half day courses. Book onto one or both of the courses in this series. Suitable for Teachers, Headteachers and TAs (KS1).

This afternoon course will build on the learning in EYFS and the key concepts that need to be taught in Y1 and Y2. The end of year expectations for each year group will be explored, and we will consider strategies and resources to secure a deep understanding of the basic skills.

There will be a practical focus on number sense, place value, calculation and fractions. We will explore strategies and resources to support a deep conceptual understanding.

Outcomes:

• Teachers will have a clear understanding of the end of year expectations for Y1 and Y2.
• They will understand why and how manipulatives can support this understanding.
• They will have a bank of strategies to address the most important mathematics concepts in KS1.
